Affiliate and referral tracking

Give partners tracked links and see the sales they drive.

Written by Traian

If newsletters, communities, or agencies send you buyers, you'll want to know which ones actually convert. The Affiliates page gives each partner a tracked link; sales driven by that link are tagged to the partner, with an order count and revenue total per partner. Payouts themselves stay between you and the partner; easyboard measures, it doesn't move money.

How attribution works

Each partner gets a referral code, and their link is simply your board address with ?ref= and the code appended, for example https://jobs.example.com/?ref=acme. When a visitor lands through such a link, the code is stored in a cookie in their browser for 30 days. If that visitor buys anything within those 30 days, the order is attributed to the partner. Attribution is first touch: the first partner link the visitor clicked wins, and a later click on a different partner's link does not overwrite it. Two consequences worth knowing: attribution needs the purchase to happen in the same browser, and only paid orders count toward a partner's numbers.

Add a partner

  1. In the sidebar, open Monetization and click Affiliates.

  2. In the Partners card, click Add partner.

  3. Enter a Name (for example "Acme Partners") and a Referral code: the short slug that goes in the link, for example "acme". Keep it lowercase and memorable, since partners will paste it around.

  4. Optionally enter Commission %. This is a note for your own payout math; easyboard stores it but does not calculate or send payouts.

  5. Optionally add Notes (contact person, terms, campaign).

  6. Leave Active on: only active codes attribute new sales.

  7. Click Save.

You'll see a "Partner saved" confirmation and the partner appears in the table below.

Share the tracked link

  1. In the partner's row, click the copy icon (Copy referral link).

  2. You'll see "Referral link copied": the full link, your board address plus ?ref= and the partner's code, is on your clipboard.

  3. Send it to the partner. Any page of your board works as a target as long as the ?ref= parameter is present, so partners can also append it to a deep link they prefer.

Read the results

The Partners table is the report itself:

  • Partner and Code: who, and the code their link carries.

  • Sales: the number of paid orders attributed to them.

  • Revenue: the total value of those orders.

For order-level detail, open Orders and export the CSV: its Referral column carries the code on every attributed order, so you can reconcile a partner's numbers line by line before paying a commission.

Keep expectations calibrated: only completed, paid purchases move these numbers, so a partner who sends lots of visitors but no buyers shows zero sales here. If you also want to see the traffic they send (visits, not just purchases), give the partner UTM parameters on top of the ?ref= code and read the traffic side in your analytics tool: Add analytics and tracking.

Edit, pause, or remove a partner

  • Edit: the pencil icon reopens the form with the partner's details; change anything and click Save.

  • Pause: switch Active off and save. New visits through the link stop being attributed, but the partner's historical Sales and Revenue stay visible, with an "Inactive" badge next to the name. This is the right way to end a partnership cleanly.

  • Delete: the trash icon removes the partner from the list. Orders that were already attributed keep a snapshot of the referral code, so your ledger's history survives, but the aggregate row disappears from this page. Prefer deactivating unless the partner was a test.

Paying commissions

easyboard intentionally leaves payouts off-platform: partners' cuts are paid by you, however you and they agree (bank transfer, PayPal, invoice). A simple monthly routine: open Affiliates, note each partner's Revenue, apply the Commission % you recorded on their profile, verify against the Orders CSV, and pay. If you want a partner-facing incentive at the checkout end too, pair their link with a dedicated discount code: Coupons and discounts.
